Sometimes, discovering a new spice can be tricky for the palate. Of course, it will give your recipes the unique hotness they deserve, but it could also set your mouth on fire! All our spices are not violent but can be sometimes incisive and tenacious, so please follow our tips to enjoy the heat!
TIP 1. START IT SMALL
It’s scientifically proved! The spicier the food you eat, the more resistant you will become to its effects. So if you have a hard time handling spicy spices, just start small – by adding some to your dishes little by little – and you’ll be able to enjoy all kind of spicier foods at their best!
TIP 2. EAT IT SLOWLY
Here is an essential tip you can follow: to enjoy the heat of a spicy meal without overwhelming your mouth and taste buds, slow down! Why? Because when you quickly eat something spicy, the receptors in your mouth will react accordingly, hence the burning hot effect! Let your mouth and spice become best spicy friends: slow down, relax, and enjoy!
TIP 3. DON’T DRINK WATER
I know, I know, the first reaction when your mouth is burning hot is to extinguish the fire with a glass of fresh icy water. It seems pretty obvious BUT it’s not a good idea! Hot spices, like Sansho pepper, for example, will be more active and spicier in contact with that icy glass of water that you thought was your friend. Well, after you’ve lit your mouth on fire (not following the 2 previous tips), your best option is dairy products that will help to remove or decreasing the hot sensation.
